During the ongoing debate on the federal budget 2026-27 in the Senate, members from different political parties appreciated Pakistan’s successful diplomatic engagement, which they said helped create an environment conducive to peace talks between Tehran and Washington.
The senators from both benches expressed optimism that the normalization of relations and the reduction of tensions in the region would yield positive economic outcomes, benefiting not only Pakistan but also the wider region through enhanced trade, investment, and stability.
They particularly commended the leadership and contributions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their important role in supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing escalation between Iran and the United States.
The senators emphasized that Pakistan’s proactive diplomacy had enhanced the country’s international standing and demonstrated its commitment to promoting peace and dialogue in the region. They urged the government to continue pursuing constructive engagement with regional and global stakeholders to safeguard peace and support economic growth.
Participating in the Senate debate on the Federal Budget 2026-27, Senator Haji Inayatullah appreciated the sincere efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar in helping normalize the situation between Iran and the United States, which ultimately resulted in peace talks between the two countries.
He stressed that the budget should be pro-poor and include additional measures to control inflation. He also called for a greater increase in the salaries of government employees and urged the government to announce more incentives and relief measures for the underprivileged segments of society.
Senator Dost Ali Jeesar congratulated Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their contributions toward national stability and security.
He emphasized the need for an effective strategy to achieve the Federal Board of Revenue’s tax collection targets and improve revenue generation.
He also called for greater attention to power generation and urged the government to ensure effective measures to control load-shedding across the country.
Senator Kamil Ali Agha appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and highlighted the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
He said the budget should be more people-friendly and responsive to public needs.
He maintained that an increase in the defence budget was necessary to address prevailing security challenges.
He urged the government to further reduce petroleum and electricity prices to provide relief to the public.
Referring to the proposed salary and pension increases, he said that a seven percent raise was insufficient and called for a more substantial increase for government employees and pensioners.
Senator Fawzia Arshad called for the launch of more development projects in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to enhance its beauty and improve the quality of life for residents.
She emphasized the need to ensure the provision of all essential facilities and services for people living in Islamabad, saying that urban development should remain a priority of the government.
Senator Rana Mahmood Ul Hassan said that Pakistan continues to deal the challenge of terrorism and is confronting it with courage and determination. He paid tribute to the officers and personnel of the Pakistan Army who are sacrificing their lives in the defence of the country and for the restoration of peace and security.
He stressed the need for allocating additional funds for the defence sector to effectively counter threats posed by enemies.
He said Pakistan is committed to promoting peace in the region but will never allow its enemies to pursue nefarious designs against the country. He reiterated that national security and defence preparedness must remain key priorities in the government’s policy and budgetary framework.
