ISLAMABAD, Apr 08 (APP):Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle in the Senate on Wednesday lauded Pakistan’s leadership for its effective diplomatic efforts in easing regional tension, while stressing the need for national unity to sustain the gains of peace.
They termed it a historic moment, saying such sincere efforts to avert an imminent catastrophe had earned Pakistan a good name in the comity of nations.
Speaking in the Senate, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said Pakistan’s leadership had successfully steered diplomacy that helped avert a wider conflict. The entire nation deserved appreciation for standing united behind its institutions, he added.
Former prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the development would be remembered as a historic milestone, noting that Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement during the crisis would serve as a case study in global peace-building.
Pervaiz Rashid of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said the fear of war had subsided and expressed hope that global resources would now be directed towards development.
Senator Kamran Murtaza of JUI-F said the ceasefire was only the first step and that sustained efforts were needed to ensure lasting peace.
Senator Manzoor Ahmed paid tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar for their role in promoting peace, urging political forces to set aside differences for national progress.
Senator Danish Kumar expressed jubilation over Pakistan’s global recognition, saying the country had emerged as a symbol of peace and leadership in the Muslim world, adding that minority communities fully supported the national leadership.
Senators Jam Saifullah Khan, Mohammad Humayun Mohmand, Khalida Ateeb, Naseema Ehsan, Zamir Hussain Ghumro, Faisal Javed, Bushra Anjum Butt, Aimal Wali Khan, Poonjo Bheel, Syed Masroor Ahsan, Afnan Ullah Khan, Tahir Khalil Sandhu, and Zeeshan Khanzada also spoke on the occasion and appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
They called for unity to address both internal and external challenges, emphasising that unity, restraint, and continued diplomatic engagement were essential to ensure that the fragile ceasefire leads to a durable peace in the region.
