ISLAMABAD, Jun 19 (APP):In a strategic meeting held at the BISP Headquarters, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, and the World Food Programme’s (WFP) Global Nutrition Advisor, Saskia de Pee, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing maternal and child health initiatives across Pakistan.
Senator Rubina Khalid shared that President Asif Ali Zardari is set to launch the Benazir Hunarmand Programme on June 21-the birthday of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The initiative aims to empower BISP beneficiaries through skill development and employment opportunities, with a special focus on women’s participation in healthcare, construction, and hospitality sectors.
“Our goal is to connect beneficiaries to meaningful livelihoods,” the Senator emphasized, “We are partnering with Chambers of Commerce and engaging with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis to ensure that vocational training aligns with domestic and global employment trends.”
The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in nutrition, immunization, and the establishment of women’s facilitation and counseling centers. Secretary BISP, Amer Ali Ahmad, underlined the success of the Nashonuma initiative, which combines cash assistance with Specialized Nutritious Food (SNF) to address malnutrition in mothers and children.
Both parties agreed to strengthen outreach in newly merged districts and Balochistan by utilizing Mobile Registration Vans and targeted awareness campaigns, ensuring broader access to essential health and nutrition services.
