ISLAMABAD, Feb 06 (APP):The Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political and diplomatic support for the just struggle of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination.
The resolution was moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Gilgit-Baltistan and Frontier Regions Engineer Amir Muqam in the House.
The House strongly condemned India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, while paying rich tribute to the courage, resilience and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people.
It expressed grave concern over India’s continued efforts to consolidate its illegal occupation of IIOJK and undermine its internationally recognised disputed status following the unilateral and unlawful actions of August 5, 2019.
The House emphasised that the illegal and unilateral changes to the constitutional and disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir cannot serve as a substitute for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as enshrined in the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
It further stressed that a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
The Senate urged India to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions to enable the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their future through a free, fair and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.
