Senate Secretariat introduces fuel conservation, austerity measures on Chairman Senate’s directives
ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP):Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday approved a comprehensive package of fuel conservation and austerity measures for the Senate Secretariat aimed at reducing expenditure and promoting the efficient use of public resources.
Under the measures, Monday to Thursday will be observed as physical working days, while Friday will be observed as a work-from-home day during non-session days.
Employees will remain available through telephone, email, WhatsApp and other means of communication and will be required to report to the office within one hour if directed by the competent authority.
Official office timings will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on non-session days. During Senate sessions, offices will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or until the conclusion of the session.
As part of the transport-related austerity measures, fuel provision for official vehicles has been reduced by 50 percent for three months, while the purchase of vehicles of all types has been completely banned.
A five percent reduction in the Non-ERE Budget for the financial year 2026-27 will also be implemented monthly.
The Senate Secretariat will also give preference to teleconferencing for meetings, except intra-city meetings, while the number of meetings will be kept to the bare minimum.
Foreign visits and travel have been banned for three months, subject to specified exceptions, while official dinners will only be hosted for visiting foreign delegations.
The austerity package further prohibits government-funded seminars, training sessions and conferences, with in-house facilities to be preferred where such activities are necessary.
E-filing, digital correspondence and electronic sharing of official documents will also be encouraged.
The notification directs all offices to ensure the efficient use of electricity by switching off lights, air-conditioning systems, computers, printers, photocopiers and other electrical and electronic equipment when they are not required for official purposes.
