ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The members of Senate Forum for Policy Research (SFPR) Thursday passed a resolution unanimously by strongly condemning baseless propaganda against Pakistan in context of Pulwama attack in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) and underlined the need for peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue in accordance with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
The committee meeting, chaired by Senator Col (R) Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, was also attended among others by senators Afrasiab Khattak, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Mir Muhmmad Naseer Mengal , Sehar Kamran and Nisar Muhammad Khan.

The resolution tabled by Senator Sehar Kamran said, “Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism and has suffered not only loss of 70,000 lives but also faced great economic loss, Pakistan stands firm against every act of terrorism inside and outside the country.”
The Senate body called for an independent investigation into the Pulwama attack.
“Pakistan wants peace in the region and we once again call for an earliest peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UNSC resolutions,” the members said, urging that all acts of violence, genocide and atrocities in the IoK against the innocent Kashmiris should come to an end immediately.
United Nations and Human Rights Organizations (UNHRO) should play role in restoring peace and human dignity in the occupied valley. Right of Self Determination of the people of Kashmir must be respected and implemented, they said in one voice.
The committee chairman asked all the political parties to work for the supremacy of the Parliament and democracy. He said, the Parliament should be respected as people in the House represented collective wisdom of people of the country.
Member of all the political parties had rendered unmatched sacrifices for strengthening democracy and the Parliament, he said.
The chairman said, “All the political parties should be united to work for the supremacy of the parliament and strengthening of the democracy.”
He also urged the members of the Parliament to avoid using non-parliamentary language during proceeding of the House, keeping in view sanctity of the Parliament.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain asked for making the Senate body more effective and productive forum. The committee should recommend something which should be helpful for new members of the Parliament, he added.
Senator Ilyas Bilour asked members of the parliament for constructive arguments in the House and avoid using derogatory language. “I remained part of the parliament for 21 years, but never used non-parliamentary language in the House,” he added.
Senator Afrasiab Khattak said parliamentary form of government was the best system in the country.
Sehar Kamran said there should constructive debate in the Parliament on all the issue confronted by the country.
Nisar Muhammad Khan said the parliamentarians should represent the state not party, government and opposition. “We should be loyal to state, not to any party” he added.
The committee also endorsed the report of the sub-committee which was headed by the Afrasiab Khattak on Foreign Policy of Pakistan.
The Senate body stressed the need to implement the recommendations of the committee.
Expressing concern over absence of senators from treasury benches, the meeting decided to discuss rapid population growth in the country during next sitting.
