ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (APP):Senate Sub-standing committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination on Monday directed all public and private hospitals to complete the registration process of their unregistered doctors within 15 days.The meeting was chaired by its Convener Senator Dr Ashok Kumar to discuss illegal fake medical practitioners and substandard and falsified products in public and private hospitals besides discussion on doctors on deputation working in Federal Government hospitals in the country.
The committee directed to cancel the past registration of those unregistered doctors who fail to register themselves. The committee warned the private hospitals to ensure renewal of registration of their doctors otherwise any such hospital will be sealed.
The committee also recommended to impose fine on those medical practitioners who fail to register with the Pakistan Medical and dental Council (PMDC). The body also sought details of doctors posted on deputation.
The convener directed all unregistered doctors to ensure their early registration with PMDC. He also asked to issue directions to the provincial governments in this regard.
He said that one drug inspector has been assigned for entire federal capital to monitor 890 medical stores. He said that there should be at least three drug inspectors for federal capital.
He said that an advertisement was also published in national dailies to ask doctors to register themselves. He said that the hospital concerned should stop practicing such unregistered doctors.
He claimed that as many as 60 unregistered doctors have been working in the federal capital.
The convener said that PMDC could not properly manage the issue of registration doctors and even failed to do its work properly in this regard.
He said that PMDC was unaware of degrees of doctors who have been practicing since long without registration.
He said that many unregistered doctors were working with public or private hospitals but PMDC and hospitals concerned have failed to take any action against them.
Ashok Kumar said that Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has no mechanism to monitor the drugs manufacturing companies.
He said that the media was playing an effective role in highlighting the issues in health sector.
Senator Kalsoom Parveen suggested to check the degrees of all doctors working in hospitals. She also asked to check the data of doctors of doctors of public and private hospitals.
