Senate body condemns Sahiwal incident

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (APP):The Senate Standing Committee on Interior Monday strongly condemned Sahiwal incident and asked the Punjab government to submit investigation report before it. The body also sought a comprehensive report containing details of all encounters carried
out by the Punjab Police during the past ten years.

The committee meeting, chaired by Senator A. Rehman Malik, was attended by Senators Javed Abbasi, Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh, Muhammad Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, Haji Momin Khan Afridi, senior officers from Ministry of Interior (MOI), Federal Investigation
Agency (FIA), Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Mayor, MCI Islamabad.
The meeting offered Fateha for the departed souls of those who werekilled in the tragic incident.  Senator Javed Abbasi informed the Committee that he will soon introduce a bill in Senate that would deal with police reforms and citizen protection.
Deliberating on a report on illegal immigration and human trafficking ofPakistani citizens, Chairman Committee, Senator A. Rehman Malik expressed displeasure at the absence of DG Immigration. He directed that the DG’s presence would be mandatory in the next meeting.
Rehman Malik said that it was matter of great concerns and worrisome that illegal immigration and human trafficking was increasing adding that many Afghanis were reportedly traveling on Pakistani passports.
Discussing the progress made to resolve administrative financial and legal issues of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) the Chairman Committee directed that all due funds must be transferred to it within two weeks.
He also stressed the need for separate funds allocations for MCI and CDA in the next budget. Rehman Malik directed CDA to establish a slaughter house within two months to ensureprovision of beef and meat to residents. He said there should be Islamabad Food Authority like food authorities in other provinces.
He also directed CDA and MCI to establish mini picnic points in Margalla Hills with easy approach and less rates as a layman can’t take family to Monal and other expensive picnic points.
