Seeking higher education is a universal subject: Governor

PESHAWAR, Nov 21 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said that seeking higher education is a universal subject adding that whether it is an institution or individual, one has to secure respectable berth amongst a universally acknowledged arena.

Addressing as the chief guest at the first ever convocation of the
University of Swat at its premises in Swat, the Governor said the young generation of Pakistan is second to none in the world, it is also equally important to making the required quality of opportunities, resources and encouragement available to them to be able to compete in the emerging circumstances.

The pioneer badge comprised of 195 graduates. The ceremony was also
attended by Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam, some of the members of parliament from the area besides vice chancellors from almost all the public sector universities of the province, educationists and parents of the graduating students. Fifty students were honoured with gold medals for achieving distinctions in their respective disciplines.

The Governor pointed out that the government on its part is committed to provide financial and material resources but simultaneously the teachers and parents should also continue their effective role to ensure conducive learning environment and encouragement to the students.

He said that we should work hard to ensure that Pakistan emerges as a strong, developed and vibrant country and Pakistanis could hold their heads high in the international community.

The Governor also appreciated the academic and research programmes in variety of subjects especially offering M.Phil and Ph.D in selected subjects at the campus and wished that the University of Swat act would play its role towards progress in this region.

He also praised the faculty for their concerted efforts in providing a strong base of research and studies in the field of Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Computer & Information Technology at the campus.

Meanwhile, the Governor who is the Chancellor of the University also
presided over a meeting of its senate at the campus. The senate besides, disposing of other matters also approved budgetary estimates for the year 2016-17 and the actual budget for the year 2015-16.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Dr Jehan Bakht, presenting the annual report highlighted the achievements of the university.

He also thanked the Governor for gracing the occasion by his presence.
