ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP): Secretary Election Commission of
Pakistan (ECP), Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad on Monday hoped that the new Members of the Commission would be appointed before July 27.

Addressing a press conference, he said that under the constitution
government and opposition are bound to appoint ECP‘s members within 45 days after their retirement.

ECP has also written a letter to the Prime Minister for early
appointment of the members, he added.

Due to the non appointment of the new members, the Election
Commission could not hold bye elections in 10 constituencies and
Local Government elections in 22 constituencies of the country, Babar informed.

He said that ECP had also proposed to the Parliamentary Committee to
appoint serving Judges of the Provincial High Courts as a member of the Commission but it was unanimously rejected by them.

Meanwhile, Babar Yaqoob further informed “the ECP has approved
plan for Annual Revision of Electoral Rolls for the year 2016 in which all new National Identity card (NIC) holders will be made part of the Electoral Rolls and all voters who have become disqualified (deaths/cancelled NICs) will also be excluded from the rolls after their door to door verification followed by display process”.

The voter count is expected to be increased from 93 million to 97 98
millions after the said revision process, he added.

According to the plan, 15 days October 2016 door to door
verification shall be carried out from August 1st to August 15, 2016
which shall be followed by 21 days of display process starting from
August, 21 .

For the said purpose verifying officials shall visit
the permanent addresses of the new NIC holders for their verification.
Simultaneously, door to door verification of all the deceased voters
shall also be carried out for deletion of said voters.

After door to door verification the said lists shall be displayed at
designated display centers, offices of District Election Commissioners, Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers for public inspection, Babar added.

List of display centers with contact details shall be shared with
media and published of ECP’s official website soon.

A mass media campaign has been planned for the event where general
public. Voters shall be requested to check their vote status by sending their NIC number to 8300 SMS through their mobile phones. If desired, applications for enrollment/transfer, correction and deletion of votes could be submitted on prescribed forms at designated display centers, offices of District Election Commissioners, Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers.

ECP has issued necessary instructions to all the Provincial Election
Commissioners, Regional Election Commissioners, District Election Commissioners, NADRA and all concerned to complete all the concerned to complete all the pre requisites of the revision process at the earliest.
It was also decided that effective monitoring shall also be carried
out throughout the process of Annual Revision.

A very important event of the entire Campaign would be celebration
of National Voters Day which is proposed to be on 7th December, 2016.
