SDPI, IDSP join hands to advance research, policy advocacy in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and the Institute for Development Studies and Practice (IDSP), Quetta, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in research, policy engagement, capacity building and sustainable development initiatives focused at community level, particularly in Balochistan.
The three-year agreement was signed by Dr Quratulain Bakhteari, the Founder Director of IDSP, and Dr Sajid Amin Javed, Deputy Executive Director (Research) of SDPI on behalf of the institute, said a press release issued on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Quratulain Bakhteari said the partnership would create new opportunities for the young researchers and development practitioners in Balochistan while strengthening evidence-based policy-making and community-led development.
Dr Sajid Amin Javed said the collaboration would help bridge research, policy and practice by combining SDPI’s policy expertise with IDSP’s extensive field experiences and community networks across Balochistan.
According to the MoU, the partnership aims to promote evidence-based research, policy dialogue, knowledge exchange and human resource development through joint initiatives designed to support Pakistan’s sustainable development agenda.
Under the agreement, both institutions will collaborate on research and consulting projects, pooling their expertise, resources and facilities to undertake studies on issues of mutual interest.
The two organizations will also pursue joint publications, conferences, policy consultations and dissemination of research findings.
The partnership provides opportunities for IDSP students and graduates to participate in SDPI’s internship and volunteer programmes. Students will be able to contribute to research projects, media productions and other professional activities under the guidance of both institutions, helping them gain practical experience and professional exposure.
The MoU further envisages the organization of training programmes, workshops, seminars and guest lectures for students, researchers and professionals. Both institutions will exchange trainers and experts to share knowledge and expertise, while also facilitating participation in conferences and capacity-building events.
As part of the agreement, SDPI and IDSP will promote resource sharing by providing access to training facilities, workshops and academic events, subject to mutual consent and availability.
The two institutions will also explore opportunities for national and international collaborations to expand research and professional development prospects.
A key feature of the partnership is IDSP’s designation as SDPI’s primary institutional partner for Balochistan-related policy engagement and advocacy initiatives. The agreement states that IDSP will represent Balochistan in policy forums, development planning processes, adaptation planning and government consultations, while both organizations will jointly prepare policy briefs, position papers and evidence-based recommendations.
