SC reserves judgement on five death sentences awarded by military courts

ISLAMABAD, June 13 (APP): The Supreme Court on Monday reserved
judgement on five appeals against death sentences announced by the
military courts after completion of arguments on appeals.

These appeals were filed by convicted Haider Ali, Qari Zaheer Gul, Taj Muhammad, Atiq-Ur-Rehman and Faiz Zaman Khan.

A five-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Justice
Faisal Arab took up a total 17 appeals against death sentences announced by military courts.

The court also sought records of military court judgements for four death row convicts Jameel ur Rehman, Aslam Khan, Ajab Gul and
Nasir Khan and adjourned the hearing of theses four appeals till next
week.

Additional Attorney General Attiq-Ur-Rehman told the court that these questions were also raised before the Peshawar High Court.

Asma Jehangir stated that Zaheer Gul was picked up from Internally Displaced Persons camp in 2009 while he was awarded death sentence in 2015.

Later, hearing of the remaining appeals was adjourned till June 14 (Tuesday).
