ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP):The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench has referred the case pertaining to the detention of Mehrang Baloch to the Practice and Procedure Committee. The five-member bench, headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, issued the direction on Thursday after hearing the matter.
During the proceedings, Advocate Faisal Siddiqi appeared on behalf of Mehrang Baloch and others. He argued that the case should be heard by a regular bench rather than a constitutional bench.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, however, noted that the petitioners had challenged the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law, and therefore the matter fell within the jurisdiction of a constitutional bench.
Advocate Siddiqi submitted that the petitioners had not sought interpretation of the law but had only challenged the MPO order itself.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court referred the case to the Practice and Procedure Committee for further consideration.
