SC expresses annoyance over non-arrest of culprit in rape case

LAHORE, Nov 9 (APP): A two-member bench of the Supreme
Court Monday expressed annoyance over non-arrest of culprit in
minor girl rape case.
The bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing
the suo motu notice regarding non arrest of culprits of minor
girl rape case, at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
During the hearing, police high-ups submitting a report
told the bench that efforts were being made to trace the real
culprit.
They said that more than two hundred suspects were
investigated and their DNA tests were also conducted but no
arrest was made.
They said that police was trying to trace the
real culprit with help of an ambiguous sketch.
However, Justice Saqib Nisar termed the report unsatisfactory
and asked police officials to admit their failure in the case.
All police actions were limited to paper work untill now and it
was equal to deceive the court, he added.
However, the police officials sought time to arrest the
culprits.
At this, the court gave another opportunity to arrest
the culprit while adjourning the matter for three months.
Former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo
motu notice on news item published in section of media in 2013
regarding the non arrest of the culprits of minor girl, Sumbel
rape case in Lahore city.
