SC directs Punjab chief secretary to resolve girls school's land encroachment issue

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP):The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Punjab Chief Secretary Punjab to resolve the land issue of a girls school in Gujranwala encroached by Katchi Abadi people by Friday (March 15).
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard the case pertaining to regularisation of encroachments upon a girls’ school in Gujranwala.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked how encroachments on a property that had been donated for the school in Gujranwala were regularised. He asked how a slum was developed on a trust land and it was illegal to regularise that.
Additional Advocate General Punjab Faisal Chaudhry said the government was ready to grant alternate land to the provincial education department.
Justice Gulzar asked the reason behind allotting another plot 13 kilometers away from the original location of the school. He asked why the government did not shift the katchi abadi as to kids would go 13 kilometers away.
He asked what action was taken against the officials who were involved in illegally regularising slum on the trust land.
He asked the chief secretary to solve the problem or face the consequences.
The court then adjourned the case till Friday.
