ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (APP):Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani Thursday said that media was an important segment of
society and the proactive role of journalists provided necessary guidelines for steering the agenda of
social and national development.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Peshawar Press Club at Parliament House
here. Senator Khanzada Khan was also present on the occasion.
The chairman said unfortunately the problems of professional journalists, who highlight the issues of
all segments of society, were ignored.
The rights of professional journalists must be protected by implementation of the existing laws and if
required new legislation should be carried out to this effect.
Sadiq Sanjrani said that the journalists from Peshawar and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had
offered the sacrifices during the war on terror and had played a proactive role for establishing peace in
the troubled regions.
He said that the Upper House of the Parliament would play its due role for promotion of media and
protection of journalists in the country. The problems highlighted by the delegation would be discussed
with the relevant stakeholders for their early solution, he added.
He said necessary measures should be taken for implementation of the existing laws for job protection
of media persons in the country.
Earlier, representatives of Peshawar Press Club apprised the Chairman about the problems being
faced by the journalist community. They informed the Chairman that some TV channels and media
organizations were depriving the professional journalists of their job without giving notices and
requested the Chairman to take up the issue at appropriate level.
