SAFRON continues to manage policy matters of refugees

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP):Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) will continue to look after policy matters related to refugees following 25th Amendment that merged Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Talking to APP here on Monday, an official said refugees were dispersed in different parts of the country therefore all the provinces would be taken on board for the implementation of policies which would be formed at SAFRON.
He added that a forum of Interior Ministry was also looking after the issues related to refugees and when required, a meeting of home secretaries was called to address the major issues.
The forum also kept on updating the provinces about the decisions and policy matters when needed, the source informed.
On a query regarding latest figures of refugees, he informed that complete data was available at the website of United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in three categories.
He added that the website of UNHCR had all the updated figures related to Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
The source also mentioned that the UN refugee agency maintains the detail record of reflux including volunteer repatriation.
The latest registered number of refugees according to UN refugee agency was around 1.4 million, he added.
Only those refugees were included in the count who had valid Proof of Registration (PoR) cards issued by Government of Pakistan Registration Authority (NADRA), he informed.
