Safe City Islamabad logs 17,000 surveillances, helps trace 114 gangs

ISLAMABAD, Feb 08 (APP): Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Safe City Islamabad conducted nearly 17,000 surveillance operations, identified 114 wanted criminal gangs and facilitated the arrest of 160 proclaimed offenders during January 2026, reflecting a strong start to the year through technology-driven policing in the federal capital.
An official told APP on Sunday that the performance reflected the effective use of modern technology, coordinated policing, and round-the-clock monitoring under the supervision of DG Safe City / DIG Traffic Muhammad Haroon Joya.
The official said that during January, Safe City cameras were used for close to 17,000 surveillance activities, leading to the identification and shifting of suspicious persons, motorcycles and vehicles to relevant police stations for legal action.
Under the Punch Lab and Golden Hour systems, Safe City Islamabad successfully identified 114 highly wanted criminal gangs, significantly strengthening preventive and intelligence-led policing in the federal capital.
The Digital Control Room’s technical team, using digital identification tools, also facilitated the arrest of 160 proclaimed offenders and court absconders, the official added.
Through the Complaint Management System, more than 8,000 registered public complaints were addressed and resolved during the month, ensuring timely response and citizen facilitation.
The official further said that in January 2026, over 2,300 tenants and domestic workers were registered under the tenant registration mechanism, contributing to improved documentation and security.
Safe City Islamabad also provided technical assistance to police facilitation centres, enabling services for nearly 16,000 citizens during the month.
Regarding emergency response, the official said that 97,143 calls were received on Pucar-15 in January. Of these, 8,852 were police-related calls where timely assistance was provided, 11,712 calls were responded to with guidance, while 76,579 calls were non-emergency or unnecessary.
DG Safe City / DIG Traffic Muhammad Haroon Joya said that Safe City Islamabad remains operational 24/7 to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property, adding that citizens can seek immediate police assistance through Pucar-15 or the One Info App in case of any emergency.
