ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): The artistic legacy of renowned Pakistani artist, calligrapher and poet Sadequain was celebrated at a special tribute and exhibition held at the ECO Cultural Institute in Tehran, highlighting his enduring contribution to contemporary Pakistani art and the shared cultural heritage of the region.
The event brought together ECO Cultural Institute President Ambassador Dr Mohammad Hassan, Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Sadequain Foundation Founder and Chairman Dr Salman Ahmed, Associate Professor and faculty member at Iran’s University of Art Dr Mohammad Reza Moredy, diplomats, university faculty members, researchers and art enthusiasts.
The programme featured an exhibition of Sadequain’s artworks, along with video messages and special presentations highlighting his artistic legacy, said a news release.
In his address, Ambassador Dr Mohammad Hassan welcomed the participants and highlighted Sadequain’s prominent place in contemporary Pakistani art.
Referring to Sadequain’s extensive work in painting, calligraphy and poetry, he described him as a versatile artist whose work transcended Pakistan’s geographical boundaries and became part of the broader artistic heritage of the region.
He said the event in Tehran aimed not only to introduce the distinguished artist to a wider audience but also to highlight the shared cultural space connecting Iran, Pakistan, Türkiye and Central Asian countries through poetry, calligraphy, literature and artistic traditions.
Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui thanked the ECO Cultural Institute for organising the programme and highlighted Sadequain’s significant place in Pakistan’s cultural and artistic history.
He described Sadequain as not only a distinguished artist but also an important figure in Pakistan’s cultural identity, emphasising the influence of his work beyond national borders.
The ambassador also underscored the importance of cultural programmes in promoting mutual understanding between Pakistan and Iran, saying the exhibition in Tehran provided the Iranian public an opportunity to further discover and appreciate Sadequain’s rich artistic legacy.
