Rubina Khalid expresses grief over deaths of six women in roof collapse at BISP payment centre

ISLAMABAD, Mar 16 (APP): Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Senator Rubina Khalid on Monday expressed deep sorrow over tragic deaths of six women in a roof collapse incident at a BISP payment centre in Rahim Yar Khan.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred this morning when beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme, along with other women, were present at the payment centre of a private partner bank.
The roof of a shop suddenly collapsed, leaving six women dead and several others injured.
On the instructions of the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Senator Rubina Khalid immediately departed for Rahim Yar Khan to visit the site, review the situation and express solidarity with the affected families.
On the directions of the chairperson, a high-level committee from the BISP headquarters has also been dispatched to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident, determine responsibility and submit a detailed report within 24 hours.
In view of possible negligence, a notice has been issued to the relevant partner bank while a heavy fine is also being imposed.
The chairperson announced that BISP would provide financial assistance of Rs1 million to the families of the deceased women and Rs 300,000 to the injured, adding that the payments would be completed by Tuesday.
Senator Rubina Khalid assured that a transparent inquiry would be conducted and strict legal action would be taken against the representatives of the concerned partner bank, while all possible support would be extended to the affected families.
