Rs12.125bn relief extended to 127,686 industrial consumers in two months

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): Relief worth Rs12.125 billion was extended to 127,686 industrial consumers under the government’s package during December 2025 and January 2026, covering 46 percent of the country’s 278,961 industrial units, official figures show.
The Power Division on Friday released a two-month performance report of its three-year Industrial Surplus Electricity Package, revealing that industrial consumers saved over Rs12.125 billion during the December–January period.
According to the spokesperson of the Power Division, Under the surplus package, both small and large-scale industries received electricity at a benefit of Rs10.3 per unit on additional (surplus) consumption, aimed at promoting industrial activity and enhancing production capacity.
The data showed that a total of 1,176 million units were sold to industries under the surplus package during the two-month period, accounting for 23.80 percent of the total industrial electricity units sold during that time.
In December 2025 alone, 557 million units were sold under the package, representing 23 percent of total industrial consumption for the month.
The initiative provided financial relief of Rs5.743 billion to industrial consumers. A total of 125,829 consumers, or 45 percent of the total industrial base, benefited from the package in December.
In January 2026, industries consumed 619 million units under the surplus package, accounting for 24.5 percent of total industrial electricity sales for the month. The financial benefit for January amounted to Rs6.382 billion, while 127,686 industrial consumers—46 percent of the total—availed the package.
The spokesperson reaffirmed Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari’s commitment to taking positive measures for the industrial sector, adding that the minister personally monitors the implementation of the package and regularly reviews its progress.
