Rs 5 bln released to RRUs for rehabilitation of IDPs: NA told

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that Rs 5 billion have been released to the Reconstruction Rehabilitation Units (RRUs) for tribesmen whose houses were destroyed and damaged during military operation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din to a matter of urgent public importance regarding non-payment of Rs. 4, 00,000 to those tribesmen each whose houses were destroyed and Rs. 1,60,000 to those whose houses were damaged during the military operation in FATA.

He said the government had passed instructions to the concerned on the issue raised by the member of National Assembly in the calling attention notice.

However, he said, that it was the responsibility of the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Federally Administrated Tribal Area (FATA) secretariat, governor secretariat and Armed Forces for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons.

The minister said that the required amount had been provided to RRU and it would soon be distributed among the affected people after completing all codal formalities.

MNA Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din said although various surveys had been conducted to assess the damage assessment in the affected areas but there were still reports that more surveys were underway.

Meanwhile MNA Naveed Qamar invited the attention of the House regarding the constitution of oversight committee to oversee affairs of Pakistan International Airlines arisen after introduction of the ordinance converting it into a company.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that nominations had been sought from the Senate Secretariat for formation of the committee.

“The committee will notify soon after receiving the names from the senate secretariat” the speaker said.
