Rs. 20.33 bln new telecom projects undertaken in less-developed areas : MoIT

ISLAMABAD, Nov 22 (APP): Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoIT) has undertaken Rs. 20.33 billion worth of new projects to ensure broadband and other telecom services in less-developed areas of the country during last three years.
Similarly, a subsidy of Rs. 36.71 billion till September 2015 has also been utilized for Universal Service Fund (USF) projects all over the country.
Official sources on Sunday said as per Section 33B(2) of Telecommunication (Re-Organization) Act 1996 (Amended 2006), the USF is utilized exclusively for providing access to telecommunication services to people in un-served, under-served,
rural and remote areas. The programmes, being run under the USF are rural telephony
and E-services, optical fiber cable, broadband and special projects.
