ISLAMABAD, Jan 8 (APP):Describing the government’s Rs. 7 billion relief package as “a gift for people”, Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan Wednesday said Prime Minister Imran Khan had fulfilled his pledge of giving relief to common man after economic stabilization.
“The Prime Minister had made the pledge that after improvement on economic front, he would ensure relief for the poor and pass on the impact to masses,” she said while talking to APP on the occasion of prime minister’s visit to the USC outlet in G-9 Markaz.
The Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting said that the relief package, which was in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, would help give some ease to the common man and low income classes from inflation and price-hike.
She said the provision of basic food and daily-use items such as wheat flour, sugar, rice, Ghee and pulses on cheaper rates at USC outlets throughout the
country, would help lessen the kitchen expenditures of low income classes.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the relief package was a first step towards providing relief to common man and the government would continue to pass on
the economic dividends to the people in future as well.
Advisor to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood in his remarks on the
occasion said that the government was striving to ensure the provision of
basic commodities and daily use items to common man on cheaper rates.
He said that as it was the priority and commitment of Prime Minister Imran Khan
to provide relief to the poor people and save them from inflation and price-hike, adding the Rs. 7 billion relief package depicted the fulfillment of that commitment.
Chairman USC Zulqarnain Ali Khan said that due to the relief package, the people would be able to get basic commodities from USC outlets across the country at
10 to 30 percent cheaper rates as compared to open market.
He said that ration card scheme for the poor and deserving people would also
be launched by next month.
Managing Director USC Umar Lodhi said that the Prime Minister had directed
them to ensure the provision of quality commodities including the wheat flour to
the consumers at cheaper rates across the country.
He said that the Utility Stores Corporation would play the role of a “price
moderator” in the open market.
