Rehabilitation,widening of N-95 to be done through Saudi grant

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): National Highway Authority plans to rehabilitation and widen the 135 km Chakdara-Kalam Highway (N-95) with the support of Saudi government.
An official of NHA told APP that the government of Saudi Arabia has provided a grant though Saudi Fund for Development (SDF) and the PC-1 for the N-95 has already been approved by the relevant forum.The procurement of the projects will start after receiving formal clearance from Saudi government. The total cost of the project is Rs 3.45 billion.
Chakdara-Kalam Highway starts from Chakdara and passing through Mingora,Khwazakhela,Madyan,Bahrain and ends at Kalam.
He said that presently about 15 per cent of the road is in fair condition while about 85 pc road is in poor to very poor condition. He said that the road was badly damaged in floods of 2010 and it was washed away at many locations.
To a question,he said that under periodic maintenance and rehabilitation works amounting 181.44 million have been carried out under Annual Maintenance Plans of 2013-14.
Moreover he said that Rs 75.70 million have been spent under routine
maintenance,Rs 38.99 million under emergency maintenance and Rs 159.20 million under special maintenance during past three years.
