Recovery in power sector increases to Rs 51 billion during last four months: Omer Ayub

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP):Minister for Power Division Omer Ayub on Tuesday said that recovery in power sector has witnessed an overall increase of Rs51 billion throughout the country during the last four months.

He stated this while responding to a calling attention notice (CAN) in the National Assembly, which was sponsored by PTI lawmakers including Fazal Muhammad Khan, Malik Anwar Taj and Shahid Ahmed.

“Over all recovery increased in power sector during the last four months and comparatively a much amount of Rs51 billion was witnessed during this period,” the minister said.

Owing efforts of the incumbent team, the minister said that line losses reduced up to 2.4 percent during the last four months and an increase of 1.3 percent was witnessed on overall recovery.

The minister said that there were total 8610 electric feeders in the country and out of which 6061 feeders have been placed in Category-I and Category II.

He said there has been zero load management in Islamabad, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala while only five to eight percent feeders in Multan where load management is being done.

The minister said there were a few areas in Peshawar, Sukkur, Hyderabad and Quetta where load management was being carried out, but efforts were underway to overcome line losses and bring further improvement there.

Omer Ayub said that a loss of Rs450 billion in power sector was witnessed during the last 12 months.

The minister said that load management was being done in those areas having electricity loss, but efforts were underway to systematically clear them.

To a question about line losses in area of PESCO, he said that problem was being observed in a few areas of Peshawar, D I Khan and Bannu.

However, transformer mafia has been unearthed there which was causing loss of Rs2 billion per annum.

He said that 3000 persons would be recruited in PESCO soon and overall improvement was expected through strict monitoring in coming days.

The minister said that 27082 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against the power pilferers in the country besides arrest of 4425 persons.

He said that 450 employees of power division have been arrested or terminated during tenure of this government.
