ISLAMABAD, Dec 28 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Monday said that the Rangers were carrying out operation in Karachi exercising the special power granted to them as per Sindh government’s demand.

The federal government had accepted the Sindh government’s demands, including extension of Rangers’ special powers for 60 days under the Anti-Terrorism Act, he said while talking to a news channel.

He said the restoration of peace in the country’s mega city was a national cause for which the political parties and state institutions had made efforts and rendered many sacrifices.

Replying to a question, the minister said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who visited Karachi on Monday, did not discuss the issue with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah as the latter was not feeling well.

The minister said the Sindh Chief Minister sought the Prime Minister’s permission to take rest as he was not in good health and assured that he would act as per the latter’s directives.

The Prime Minister allowed the chief minister to have rest as it was inappropriate to discuss such a serious and sensitive issues with a person, who was not feeling well, he added.

The Chief Minister, though in sick health, received the Prime Minister and then left for taking rest with the latter’s permission, he said.

Pervaiz Rashid said the federal government respectd the mandate of the Sindh people. If the elected Chief Minister was not satisfied over a point then it was the responsibility of federal government to satisfy him, he added.

Replying to another question, the minister said the Prime Minister appreciated the role of Sindh Chief Secretary and Inspector General Police which was ultimately the appreciation for the whole provincial government.
