ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD has forecast mainly dry weather across most parts of the country on Thursday, with hot conditions likely to persist in plain areas during the daytime.
However, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated hailstorms, are expected in several regions during the evening and night hours.
According to the forecast, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm activity is likely in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is particularly expected in upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the forecast period.
The Met Office has issued multiple warnings, stating that heavy rains from April 16 (evening/night) to April 18 may trigger landslides in vulnerable hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, along with flash flooding in local nullahs and streams.
Hailstorms and strong winds may damage standing crops in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab, while windstorms, lightning, and hail could also impact weak infrastructure, including electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.
In Islamabad, hot and partly cloudy conditions are expected during the day, with chances of rain-windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms in the evening or night.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to remain mostly dry and hot in southern districts, while upper and central districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and others may experience rain-windstorms with hail during evening and night. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in upper parts.
Punjab will witness hot and dry weather in most districts, with chances of rain-windstorms and hailstorms in cities such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Multan during evening and night.
Rain-thunderstorms are also expected in Murree and Galiyat.
In Sindh, hot and partly cloudy weather is expected, with gusty and dust-raising winds likely in upper districts. Balochistan will remain hot and dry in most areas, although isolated rain-windstorms are expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, and surrounding during evening and night.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to experience partly cloudy conditions, with rain-windstorms and possible heavy rainfall and hailstorms at isolated places during the evening and night.
During the past 24 hours, weather remained dry across most parts of the country, with hot conditions prevailing in plain areas.
The highest temperatures recorded were 45 C in Mithi and 43 C in Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Chhor, and Dadu.
The Met office has advised citizens, farmers, and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures in view of the expected severe weather conditions.
