Rain, snowfall forecast for upper regions as cold, dry weather persists elsewhere

ISLAMABAD, Jan 20 (APP):Rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hilly areas, is expected in upper parts of the country, including Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and northwestern Balochistan on Wednesday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast, fog is likely to develop over a few areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning and night hours, while cold and dry weather will prevail in most other parts of the country.
In the federal capital, Islamabad and its surroundings are expected to experience partly cloudy and cold weather.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cloudy weather with light rain and light snowfall is forecast for Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Khyber, Bajaur, Kurram and Waziristan. Partly cloudy and cold conditions are likely in other districts.
In Punjab, cold and dry weather will dominate most areas, with partly cloudy conditions in the Pothohar region. Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas are likely to remain very cold and partly cloudy, with chances of rain and snow during the evening and night. Patchy fog is expected in Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur and Bahawalpur during morning and night hours.
In Sindh, cold and dry weather is expected to continue in most districts, while fog in patches may develop over Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Larkana, Mohenjodaro and Jacobabad during morning and night.
In Balochistan, rain with wind and thunderstorms along with snowfall is likely in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Qalat and Musakhel. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk and Kharan.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, cloudy weather with isolated rain and snowfall is expected.
The weather during the past 24 hours remained cold and dry over most parts of the country, while very cold and partly cloudy conditions prevailed in hilly areas. Rain and snowfall occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Fog was reported in a few districts of Punjab, upper Sindh and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The rainfall (mm)recorded during the last 24 hours was Kalam 24, Pattan and Drosh 07, Malam Jabba 04, Mir Khani and Saidu Sharif 03, Dir 02, Chitral 01.
The snowfall (inches) recorded was Kalam 12 inches and Malam Jabba 02 inches.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Leh -09C, Ziarat -07, Gupis -06, Bagrote and Kalat -05, Parachinar and Quetta -04C.
