Rain and snow likely in northwest Balochistan, upper KP, Kashmir, and GB

ISLAMABAD, Jan 20 (APP):Rain, accompanied by snow over the hills, is expected on Tuesday in northwest Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The rest of the country is likely to experience cold and dry weather. Meanwhile, light to moderate fog in patches is likely to persist in most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours.
PMD has warned that moderate to heavy snowfall may disrupt traffic and create slippery road conditions in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Travelers are advised to take precautions.
As per synoptic situation, a westerly wave was affecting the western and upper parts of the country, which is expected to persist over upper areas during the next 24 hours.
During the last 24 hours, cold and cloudy weather prevailed across most regions. Rain and snow were recorded at isolated locations in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. Light to moderate fog
prevailed in southern districts of Punjab.
The rainfall was recorded in Balochistan, where Kalat received 02 mm, and Gwadar and Quetta recorded 01 mm each.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, Bagrote received 08 mm, Bunji 03 mm, and Gilgit and Astore recorded 01 mm each.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pattan recorded 07 mm, Kalam and Balakot 06 mm, Bannu and Chitral 05 mm, Malam Jabba 04 mm, while Saidu Sharif, Kakul, and Dir (Lower and Upper) received 02 mm each, and Mir Khani recorded 01 mm.
In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad City received 07 mm, its airport 05 mm, Garhi Dupatta 02 mm, and Rawalakot 01 mm.
Snowfall was recorded in Bagrote with 7 inches, Kalam 3 inches, Malam Jabba 2 inches, and Astore and Ziarat received trace amounts.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today were in Leh at -8 C, Gupis -6 C, Skardu and Malam Jabba -5 C, Bagrote
and Parachinar -4 C, and Srinagar -3 C.
The citizens in affected areas are advised to remain cautious and plan their activities accordingly.
