Qureshi asks PMLN to consult parties over change in PAC chairmanship

ISLAMABAD, May 6 (APP):Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday asked Pakistan Muslim League(N) to consult with the government and opposition parties over its decision to change the chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Speaking in the National Assembly, he said Shehbaz Sharif gave the reason that he could not continue as chairman Public Accounts Committee due to health reasons, decided to resign and nominated Rana Tanveer of PMLN for the post of chairman PAC.
He said opposition parties were now saying that they were not consulted on the issue and the chairmanship was transferred like it was hereditary transfer, which was against democratic values. The spirit of charter of democracy was ruined with the decision of Shehbaz Sharif.
“The change of chairmanship in this way is not acceptable to us,” he added.
He said the Speaker got resolved the deadlock on the issue of Public Accounts Committee and house appreciated it.
The formation of standing committees was delayed due to delay in nomination of chairman of Public Accounts Committee, he recalled.
Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak said the Speaker should form a committee to look for ways to stop theft of electricity and line losses otherwise these problems would persist for a long time to come.
He said the government and opposition should jointly request the public to stop theft besides giving them relief.
