ISLAMABAD, Jul 29 (APP): Quaid-i-Azam University Alumni  Association announced to launch a drive against illegal encroachment and occupation of 450 acre precious land of the varsity, the top ranked institution of Pakistan.

They also appealed to the President of Pakistan and federal
interior minister for strict action against land mafia who has
illegally occupied precious land of top ranked university of
Pakistan.

In connection with 50th year of establishment of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), the Alumni Association has announced endowment fund, fundraising campaign to assist the university and the students here in the presence of Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Dr. Javed Ashraf who graced the occasion as guest of honour.

The reception of QAU Alumni Association hosted by its
President Sikandar Ahmed Rai, while it was attended by a large vice chancellors, academicians, senior quaidians, deans, faculty, heads of departments and QAU employees. The proceeding of the programme was conducted by Faraht Asif.

Highlighting the achievements of the alumni association,
secretary general QAU Alumni Murtaza Noor informed that since its inception in 2001, the alumni has undertaken a number of  initiatives for the welfare of present and old students of QAU.

After signing MOU with QAU administration in 2008, a number of scholarships have been awarded to the needy students belonging to far flung areas of the country for continuation of their studies.

He announced establishment of endowment fund, publication of special edition of directory of its members and award ceremony for the alumni members for their outstanding contribution at national and international levels and other programs in connection with  golden jubilee celebrations of QAU.

Vice Chancellor QAU Dr. Javed Ashraf lauded the contribution
of QAU Alumni Association over its various useful initiatives for the QAU students and its alma mater.

He emphasized over immediate attention towards strengthening  academic side and decades old infra-structure in the university.

He remarked that QAU administration would continue to work closely with the alumni association and work benefit from them to overcome financial and other problems being faced by university.

President Alumni Association, Sikandar Ahmed Rai said that as per signed MOU with QAU, assured every sort of possible cooperation of alumni association to QAU administration through various new ideas, networking as well as financial support.

Dr Asif Ali, President, Academic Staff Association, said that
the University and its Alumni are not for sale. He said that 450 hectares are in occupation of villagers, land mafia and
institutions. He also lamented that QAU is not getting due funding to meet its growing needs.

Former VC Dr Qasim Jan said that faculty of QAU is real asset is far better than average faculty of any university in the country.

He said that we established Botanic Garden and spread the
buildings in the sprawling Campus to ward off intruders.
Manger scholarships QAU Zulfiqar Ahemd apprised about the
various initiatives and continued scholarships programs of the alumni association.

Zulifqar Ahmed said that the scholarship support by the
alumni association has been greatly helpful for talented needy students.

The alumni members also demanded that in view of fifty years valuable contribution of QAU and its faculty, it should be declared as Flagship higher education institution.

As QAU is celebrating its 50th year of establishment, the federal government should announce special package for this real federal university of Pakistan to meet its growing needs.

In the end, old employees of QAU Malik Sahib, the conductor
and Rana Shabbir, the driver, the bus conductor, Zulfiqar Ali and Majeed were honoured for their valuable contribution to QAU.
