ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):Punjab Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir has called for intensified efforts to prevent dengue in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, directing authorities to strengthen coordination, particularly in boundary areas, and ensure strict monitoring of high-risk hotspots.
The instructions came during a review meeting on dengue prevention and control held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters, on Tuesday, attended by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Deputy Commissioners of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, health officials, and representatives from federal and provincial health agencies. Some participants joined via Zoom.
Highlighting the importance of proactive measures, Minister Nazir praised the administrations of both cities for their effective dengue control efforts to date.
“We must maintain vigilance and coordination to prevent any escalation, particularly in identified hotspots along the city boundaries,” he said.
Officials briefed the minister that no dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year, and daily case numbers are declining, with 25 cases in Islamabad and 13 in Rawalpindi reported in the past 24 hours.
Hospital beds, test kits, medicines, and other resources are reportedly adequate to treat patients in both cities.
Minister Nazir’s directives focused on ensuring continued inter-city coordination, rigorous hotspot monitoring, and timely interventions to safeguard public health.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa welcomed the guidance and reaffirmed that both city administrations are working jointly on preventive measures, including cleanliness drives, fogging campaigns, and public awareness initiatives.
