ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP):Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ms Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday said that Pakistan Television has performed a leading role in changing landscape of the media industry and many
of its prominent names now belonged to the electronic media.
She was speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony here at the Pakistan Television Academy. She said as a minister she fulfilled her responsibilities entrusted to her by former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and introduced Pakistan’s first ever film and culture policy with a view to revive dormant film industry and promote the culture and heritage of Pakistan.
She said revamping and revitalizing the PTV academy is also a sequel to that. She appreciated the efforts of PTV academy which arranged the course for makeup artists working in different sections of PTV and said it was need of the hour that the academy should hold more such trainings.
In the past 15 to 20 years, the PTV academy was stagnant and no work was done in it but now steps were taken to groom talented people and enhance their capacity, Marriyum added.
The minister said PTV had a great legacy and it was an identity of Pakistan and the television channel still had a monopoly on the terrestrial outreach in the country, adding PTV had an important role
to play in giving identity to artists who were working across the media industry.
She urged that Pakistan Television has to transform itself and resolve its financial and institutional issues by generating its own revenues, make it a profitable organization and maintain its unique position and distinction.
“Everything can be achieved with commitment, vision and passion,” she added.
She said the first icon dinner gala is being organized on May 15 with corporate funding to award the artists and recognize the achievements of the stars, the minister told. PTV should generate revenues by holding the awards ceremony next time on its own, she remarked.
While dilating upon the film policy, Marriyum said it was up to the artists and film producers to take advantage of the incentives available to them after the announcement of the policy.
She said prominent designer Tariq Amin, who conducted the course, was one of the iconic personalities and everybody connected with his name and felt proud of him. Tariq Amin entered the entertainment industry when media was going through a transformation, she added.
Head of Pakistan Television Academy Riffat Nazir and Tariq Amin informed the participants about distinctive features of the training programme.
Deputy Managing Director Pakistan Television Zahoor Barlas attended the event. Later the certificates were awarded among the participants.
