PTI founder receiving best available medical treatment: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Senator Rana Sanaullah Khan on Monday informed the Senate that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was being provided the best available medical treatment and that there had been no negligence in addressing his health concerns while in judicial custody.
Responding to a point of order raised by Leader of the Opposition, Raja Nasir Abbas, the adviser said responsibility for the health and treatment of a person in judicial custody rested with the authorities concerned as well as the court under whose orders the person was confined.
He said that if any negligence occurred in providing medical treatment to a person in custody, the authorities responsible for his custody and care would be answerable under the law. Brushing aside the impression that the PTI founder was not getting proper medical treatment, Rana Sanaullah said that the information available regarding his health, including his blood pressure, did not support the concerns expressed by the opposition leader.
Referring to the PTI founder’s eye ailment, he said treatment had been provided by some of the best specialists available in Pakistan, having expertise of international standards in dealing with such medical conditions.
He said the required injections and other treatment had been administered, while medical examinations and diagnostic tests were also carried out. The adviser said doctors from Al-Shifa were also involved in his treatment and a doctor proposed by the PTI founder’s side was included in the medical team.
Rana Sanaullah said petitions concerning the PTI founder were pending before the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court and proceedings were taking place in accordance with law.
Regarding meetings with the PTI founder in jail, he said such meetings were also taking place in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The adviser said that any issue relating to the PTI founder’s custody, medical treatment or meetings would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and relevant court orders.
