ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Hooliganism and protest marred
the proceedings of National Assembly Wednesday when Pakistan
Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) members chanted slogans gathering in
front of the Speaker’s dais.
Led by PTI’s Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the party MNAs demonstrated in their
peculiar boisterous style disrupting the proceedings that
compelled Speaker Sardar Ayaz sadiq to adjourn the House for 15
minutes.
The situation emerged when Minister for Railways
Khawaja Saad Rafique was allowed to speak on a point of order
in response to a voluminous speech of Leader of the Opposition
Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on the Panama Papers issue.
Being Leader of the Opposition, he had manifested the view
point of the opposition parties in the House and delivered a lengthy
speech that had apparently covered all areas related to the issue.
The treasury members during this discourse patiently listened
to the Leader of the Opposition in all respect for the House norms
and waiting for their turn to reply. But, the situation worsened
when the Speaker allowed a point of order to the Railways Minister.
At this moment just going against the democratic norms to
listen other’s view point, the PTI leaders also demanded time to
speak. But, the Speaker said everybody should speak on his turn
and time would be given to members from both sides of the isle one
by one.
But, they were not ready to listen as it seemed clearly that
the party members were least interested in discussing the issue but
to record their protest and embarrass other parliamentarians through
their non-serious attitude.
The party members humiliated the same House where they had
taken refuge after boycotting it for a long time. It was
broadmindedness of the other parties that had welcomed the PTI again
and again to the House despite that the party always tried to
disrespect the Parliament.
It was strange for the members from other parties to see a
bunch of people sitting in the same House to which they have been
terming `fake.’ But, they had swallowed this bitter pill for the
sake of democracy but not for the reason that they will be once
again creating chaos in the House.
The government side was quite sufficient in number to respond
befittingly to the PTI’s hooliganism and pandemonium but they showed
restraint. Even the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) did not join the
PTI’s protest as it remained the matter of a few who once again tried
to humiliate yet another respected state institution.
When the Speaker returned to the House after a break of 15
minutes, the PTI members started from the point where from they had
left making the Speaker to adjourn the House till Thursday afternoon.
