PTA urges WhatsApp users to link accounts with registered SIMs

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13 (APP): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged WhatsApp users to ensure that their accounts are linked to properly registered SIMs to protect their chats, contacts, memories and digital identity.
The authority warned that a blocked or unregistered SIM could put users’ WhatsApp accounts and digital information at risk.
The PTA advised users to verify that their SIMs were properly registered and linked to their WhatsApp accounts.
It also asked users to visit the nearest franchise or customer service centre for biometric and SIM verification, if required.
“Do not wait. Secure your WhatsApp and protect your digital identity,” the authority advised.
The PTA further urged citizens to follow its official social media platforms for information and guidance on digital security.
The authority also asked users to contact its digital assistance service for further support and to take steps to protect their digital identity.
PTA said that complete biometric and SIM verification precautions were necessary to protect WhatsApp accounts, contacts and digital identity. A mobile number was not only a means of communication but also a digital identity and kept WhatsApp account and digital identity safe.
