President urges poets, writers to play their role for eradication of corruption

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain hassaid that poets and writers should play their role for eradication of corruption from the country and through their
poetry and works try to bring positive changes in the society.

He remarked that the poets are a sensitive segment of society and through their efforts corrupt elements could be unmasked and solution to contemporary issues could be found through their art.

The President said this while addressing the participants of Mehfil-e-Mushaira held as part of the week-long commemoration of Quaid-e-Azam’s 139th birth anniversary at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday night.

He stated that there was a need to revert to values of the past, when people stayed away from corrupt elements and they were not considered good.

The President called for accountability of those who plundered the wealth of the country.

Mamnoon Hussain underlined the need for making collective efforts against corrupt elements so that we could put the country on the path to progress in the light of teachings and vision of Quaid-e-Azam.

The Mehfil-e-Mushaira commenced with the recitation of Verses from the Holy Quran and Naat.

Later, as a special gesture, the President went on the stage and shook hands with the invited poets and enquired about their well being.

In his address, the President again called for Jihad against corruption. He thanked the poets for participating in the Mushaira.

On the occasion, the President also recalled an incident of his college days when people lived cordially and considered it reprehensible to have any relation with the corrupt elements.

The President on this occasion also recited some poetry.

Eminent poets from Quetta, Loralai, Peshawar, Karachi, Gujranwala, Lahore and other cities of the country participated in Mehfil-e-Mushaira and paid tribute to the founder of Pakistan.

Renowned poets Anwar Masood, Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi, Amjad Islam Amjad, Naseer Turabi and Dr Tehseen Firaqi were also present on the occasion.
