President for implementing proposals to make Islamabad markets, buildings accessible for disabled persons

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday urged the business community including the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to assist the execution of the proposals aimed at removing the obstacles impeding the free movement of the differently-abled persons.

The president, while discussing the proposals presented by the architecture departments of COMSATS, NUST and NCA to ensure hassle-free movement of DAPs in different markets and buildings of Islamabad, said the obstacles also prevented their full participation in various social and cultural activities.

He was chairing the follow-up meeting attended by the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority, and senior management of COMSATS Islamabad, NUST Islamabad and National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore.

The said departments had given presentations to turn the markets and buildings of F-6 Markaz, F-7 Markaz and I-8 Markaz of Islamabad into DAPs-friendly easing their accessibility.

The meeting also discussed various proposals to facilitate the DAPs and make markets, buildings and public places more accessible for them.

Addressing the meeting, the president asked the CDA chairman to facilitate the universities in finalizing the said proposals.

The president called for the community involvement to help address the issues being faced by the PWDs.

He said that facilitation and welfare of the DAPs was a great challenge that required the socially-responsible participation of all segments of society, including business community, students and government organizations.
