ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP):The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Three Gorges Wind Farm Private Limited (TGW) signed a grant agreement on Thursday at Islamabad, to renovate and rehabilitate Government Primary School Daad Bux Chang in Jhimpir, Thatta district of Sindh.
Under TGW’s corporate social responsibility initiative,it is a 12 month project budgeted at Rs10 million, Rs9 million from TGW and Rs1 million from PPAF, to construct classrooms and a toilet block, build a boundary wall, plant trees, install a reverse osmosis water filtration system, hire teachers, and run community mobilisation and enrolment campaigns.
The initiative targets a remote, underserved area where educational infrastructure has long lagged, aiming to bring out of school children back to classrooms and foster long term community development.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PPAF Chief Executive Officer Nadir Gul Barech described the agreement as formalising a “meaningful partnership” between PPAF and TGW, underscoring their shared commitment to sustainable development, community wellbeing, and inclusive growth.
CEO PPAF praised TGW’s engagement in Pakistan, which extends beyond renewable energy generation to responsible corporate citizenship.
“Supporting education infrastructure is a strategic CSR priority, as it lays the foundation for human capital development and intergenerational progress,” Barech said, emphasising the project’s role in addressing critical gaps in rural learning facilities.
He added that creating a safe, functional, and child friendly environment is vital for rural areas. “This initiative will directly benefit local children while strengthening community ownership and trust,” Barech noted.
Deputy CEO of China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited (CSAIL), Liu Yonggang, affirmed CSAIL’s dedication to Pakistan. “We are committed to developing renewable energy while supporting local communities through corporate social responsibility.”
Mr Liu Yonggang added that”This partnership with PPAF to rehabilitate a school in Jhimpir will improve access to education for local children and contribute to community wellbeing. We are pleased to sign on the 75th anniversary of China Pakistan relations.”
The timing holds symbolic weight, coinciding with diplomatic milestones between the two nations.
TGW, sponsored by CSAIL, the investment arm of China Three Gorges Corporation, operates the 100MW Three Gorges Second and Third Wind Power Projects in Jhimpir, feeding clean energy into Pakistan’s national grid and bolstering the country’s renewable push.
PPAF continues its nationwide efforts to strengthen local infrastructure and promote inclusive, sustainable livelihoods, partnering with private entities to amplify impact in marginalised regions.
This collaboration exemplifies how corporate players like TGW are channeling profits from green energy into social good, potentially setting a model for other firms in Pakistan’s evolving CSR landscape.
