ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP): The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Paigham-e-Pakistan and the Centre of Excellence for National Cohesion and Outreach, Islamabad, will open a two-day international conference here on Tuesday to advance practical and lasting approaches to poverty reduction and inclusive economic empowerment.
The International Conference on Inclusive and Resilient Economic Empowerment and Growth will take place on October 13–14 under the theme “Poverty to Prosperity.”
Participants from 12 countries are expected to discuss sustainable livelihoods, economic resilience and wider opportunities for vulnerable communities.
The conference is being held in connection with the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed on October 17.
PPAF Chief Executive Officer Nadir Gul Barech told APP that the conference would examine ways to link social protection with economic empowerment, resilient livelihoods and opportunities that support lasting economic independence.
Discussions will address how households can build productive assets, access markets and develop sustainable incomes while better withstanding shocks such as floods and illness.
The gathering will bring together government policymakers and senior officials, representatives from Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states, international development partners, multilateral and bilateral donors, financial institutions, private sector representatives, researchers, academics, civil society organisations, rural community representatives and practitioners in social protection, poverty graduation and inclusive growth.
Sessions will focus on market access, employment, investment, technology and financing as drivers of sustainable livelihoods.
Delegates will also consider how organised communities can sustain development gains after programmes end and how market connections can help livestock and small scale equipment generate viable incomes.
Government representatives, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector will discuss their respective roles in strengthening the conditions for inclusive growth and building household resilience.
The conference will draw on evidence, field experience and community perspectives to set practical priorities for more sustainable poverty reduction.
The programme will also feature the distribution of the Media Excellence Awards, Youth Excellence Awards and Dukhtaran-e-Pakistan Awards.
The two-day conference will centre on turning poverty reduction efforts into durable livelihoods, stronger resilience and broader economic opportunities.
