Polling Process for Presidential election starts

ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP):The polling process for Presidential election Tuesday started here in the hall of
National Assembly at 10:10am where the sitting MNAs and Senators will cast
their votes.
Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Anwer Kasi is serving as Presiding
Officer while Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza is the Returning Officer
for the election.
Three persons including Arif Alvi from PTI, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman from joint
opposition and Ch. Aitzaz Ahsan from PPPP are in the run in the
elections.
The Hall of National Assembly has been converted into Polling Station
following a motion passed in last session of National Assembly. The motion was
moved by the PTI MNA Dr. Arif Alvi who is also the candidate of President.
Senator Sassui Palejo is serving as polling agent of PPPP candidate, MNA
Shahida Akhter Ali as polling agent of joint opposition and MNA Imran Khttak as
PTI candidate.
After the completion of the polling process, Presiding Officers will
announce details of total votes polled, while a final result of the election
will be announced by the Returning Officer.
The 13th President of Pakistan will be chosen by an electoral college of 706
votes of lawmakers, including 104 total membership in senators, 342 membership
in the national and 260 of the provincial assemblies.
Provincial Assembly of Balochistan has a total membership of 65 and in order
to ensure equal representation, all provincial assemblies are given 65 votes
each in the electoral college.
Each member of the National Assembly gets one vote as do Senators while 5.70
Punjab parliamentarians makeup 1 vote, 2.58 in
Sindh, 1.90 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while MPAs in Balochistan, the smallest
assembly, get one vote each.
The first vote was polled by Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jilani (PPPP) of
NA-209. Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Speaker National Assembly Asad
Qaisar had also polled their votes.
