Polio vaccination drive continues across 97 districts

ISLAMABAD, Nov 03 (APP):Pakistan’s week-long anti-polio vaccination campaign is continuing across 97 districts, targeting more than 24 million children under five years of age to protect them against the crippling disease.
Launched on November 2, the campaign will continue until November 8, with more than 200,000 frontline workers participating in door-to-door vaccination activities.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the campaign aims to ensure that every eligible child receives polio drops, particularly in areas where the virus continues to circulate.
The drive comes amid renewed concerns following the detection of a fresh polio case in Khyber district, highlighting the need for sustained vaccination efforts to interrupt poliovirus transmission.
Health authorities have urged parents to welcome vaccination teams and ensure that all children under five receive two drops during the ongoing campaign, regardless of their previous vaccination history.
They emphasized that polio has no cure but can be prevented through repeated vaccination, which strengthens children’s immunity and protects them against the virus.
The authorities have also called upon communities, religious leaders and other stakeholders to support vaccination teams and help achieve the goal of a polio-free Pakistan.
