Polio programme reviews integrated immunization strategy

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP): The National Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) Task Team has reviewed progress on integrated immunization interventions and discussed measures to strengthen coordination between the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) and the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) to improve vaccine coverage across Pakistan.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Altaf Bosan, National Technical Focal Person for Polio Eradication, at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), focused on improving routine immunization, identifying and reaching zero-dose children, and addressing service delivery gaps in high-risk areas.
Participants also discussed a proposed five-layer monitoring framework to strengthen field oversight, improve data quality, enhance outreach services and ensure timely corrective action.
Dr. Bosan stressed the need to make effective use of existing PEI resources, improve coordination among partners and reinforce accountability at all levels to reach children missed by routine immunization services.
He underscored the importance of integrated efforts to expand access to essential vaccines and improve immunization services in underserved communities, supporting Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio and protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
