ISLAMABAD, Nov 04 (APP): The ongoing sub-national polio vaccination campaign continued for a third day on Wednesday across 97 selected districts of the country, with more than 13.3 million children vaccinated during the first two days.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the campaign will continue until November 8, targeting approximately 24 million children under five years of age.

More than 200,000 frontline polio workers are participating in the campaign, conducting door-to-door visits to administer vaccine drops and protect children against the crippling disease.

Provincial and regional vaccination figures showed that more than 5.168 million children had been vaccinated in 13 selected districts of Punjab, while approximately 3.875 million children received polio drops in 20 districts of Sindh.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, around 2.709 million children were vaccinated across 27 selected districts, while more than 1.095 million children received the vaccine in 31 districts of Balochistan.

In Islamabad, more than 295,000 children had been vaccinated, while approximately 101,000 children received polio drops in three selected districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Similarly, more than 127,000 children were vaccinated in two selected districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The NEOC said polio was an incurable disease that could cause lifelong paralysis, but children could be protected through timely vaccination.

It urged parents and caregivers to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that every child under five received polio drops during the ongoing campaign.
