ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP): The Senate Sub-Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety has reviewed administrative and policy matters of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), with a focus on improving governance, transparency and service delivery.
The meeting was chaired by Rubina Qaimkhani and attended by Senators Jan Muhammad and Dost Ali Jeesar, said a press release issued by the Senate Secretariat.
The Committee noted the absence of the concerned Minister and Secretary and emphasized the importance of their participation for effective oversight of social safety programmes.
The Sub-Committee was briefed that an investigation into alleged fake degree cases was underway, with formal inquiries initiated against three officers. The members highlighted the need for strengthening verification mechanisms to uphold institutional standards.
The Committee also reviewed matters related to procurement and distribution of assistance. Officials informed that an inquiry regarding provision of wheelchairs and sewing machines had been completed and submitted to the Managing Director’s office for final approval.
The Committee emphasized timely processing to ensure delivery of assistance to beneficiaries.
The Chair directed officials to produce a final and detailed report on the issues discussed. The remaining agenda items were postponed to the next meeting to ensure a thorough and accountability-driven review.
