PNRA and IAEA conclude National Workshop on Workplace Monitoring
ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP): The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), successfully concluded a five-day National Workshop on Workplace Monitoring at PNRA Headquarters.
The workshop was organized by PNRA’s National Institute of Safety and Security (NISAS), which is a designated IAEA Collaboration Centre for nuclear safety, radiation protection and nuclear security.
The workshop aimed at strengthening national capabilities in radiation monitoring at the workplace, including assessment of external radiation and surface contamination in line with IAEA Safety Standards.
The workshop was attended by 26 participants from different national organizations.
The workshop was led by distinguished international experts of the IAEA, Mr Laszlo Sahi of Hungary and Mr Hussaini Bin Sallah of Malaysia, who provided participants with comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical demonstrations, and hands-on training on workplace monitoring methodologies, instrumentation and interpretation of results.
“Workplace monitoring is a fundamental element of occupational radiation protection and regulatory oversight. This workshop has enhanced the competence of our professionals in assessing and controlling radiation exposure in the workplace. It reflects our strong partnership with the IAEA to ensure the safety of workers, public and environment in accordance with international best practices,” said Chairman PNRA, Mr. Zia Hussain Shah, during his concluding remarks.
While speaking at the ceremony, the IAEA experts acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening radiation safety infrastructure and emphasized the importance of effective workplace monitoring programs for ensuring occupational radiation protection.
The successful conclusion of the workshop marks another significant milestone in the longstanding cooperation between PNRA and the IAEA in building national regulatory and technical capacity in the area of nuclear and radiation safety.
The knowledge and practical skills gained during the workshop will further strengthen Pakistan’s capability to implement effective workplace monitoring programs at nuclear and radiation facilities in accordance with internationally recognized practices.
