PML N raises questions about Imran’s ‘financial misdeeds’

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (APP): Minister of State for Privatization Muhammad Zubair Umar Monday criticized PTI chief Imran Khan for failing to clarify matters concerning his alleged misdeclaration of assets, tax evasion and a 30 year old offshore company in London.

Speaking at a press conference here, along with PML N MNA Talal
Chaudhry, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responded to the questions raised by the Pakistan Tehreek i Insaf (PTI) in the parliament and Imran Khan should also calrify dubious nature of his financial dealings.

He said on different occasions, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and Securities and Exchange Commission
of Pakistan (SECP) provided details to the public about investigations carried out into the Panama Leaks.

Zubair said the real aim of PTI’s threat to shut down Islamabad was removal of the government as Imran knew that his party would have bleak chances of winning general election 2018.

He said the government tabled its bill in the parliament for the formation of commission to probe the Panama Leaks after the Supreme Court had declared the present law on inquiry commission as toothless.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) was a majority party in National Assembly so it could not give in to the whims of PTI on the inquiry commission, he stressed.

He said the PTI was non serious and did not attend the meeting of the NA’s Committee on Finance which was extensively briefed by the officials of SBP, FBR and SECP on the steps taken on the issue of Panama Leaks.

Talal Chaudhry said Imran Khan should desist from involving
army into political matters.

“Without any reason Imran is trying to pull army into a political issue,” he said, adding that the army as an institution was respected and had given sacrifices for the country’s security.

The institutions had learned from the past and there was consensus that all should work within the ambit of the constitution, he remarked.

He said the PTI would be provided security for its sit ins and protests but in case it revolted and disrupted the normal life of the citizens of Islamabad, then action would be taken against the party’s leaders and workers.

“If anybody disrupts normal life in Islamabad and takes law into his hands, then action will be taken according to law.”

He described Imran Khan’s lifestyle as lavish and wondered how
the PTI chief lived in a 300 acre Bani Gala house, flew in planes and drove expensive vehicles with apparently no source of income.

Imran Khan was probably misusing party funds and charity money
for his cancer hospital and relief activities to finance his lavish lifestyle, he alleged.

To a question about “Rs 100 fund collection” from each party member, he said Imran Khan would collect millions and as happened in the past, that huge collection would also remain unaccounted for.

Imran Khan failed to come into power through ballot in the previous election and there was no such chance in the next polls as well, he added.

Talal Chaudhry said he was the mover of the reference in the Election Commission about financial irregularities of Imran Khan and hoped that the election body would expedite the matter.

Pointing to reports of gathering of armed men in Islamabad, he alleged that it was for the first time in the country’s history that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak would ‘invade’ the capital while using official resources and transport.
