PM Shehbaz terms Pakistan’s peace diplomacy “Historic Moment of Honour,” vows continued efforts for lasting regional stability

ISLAMABAD, Apr 08 (APP):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday described Pakistan’s recent diplomatic role in easing regional tensions as “the most historic moment of honour” in the country’s history, and said the success reflected national unity, coordinated civil-military leadership, and sincere efforts for peace among brotherly nations.
The prime minister, in his opening remarks at the meeting of the federal cabinet, said that Pakistan had been blessed with a rare honour by playing a constructive role in helping calm a potentially dangerous regional conflict that could have engulfed not only the region but the wider world.
Upon arrival at the cabinet meeting, the prime minister was welcomed with a warm standing ovation by the cabinet members and participants of the meeting.
The prime minister said the development was the result of collective efforts, prayers of the nation, and the leadership’s commitment to preventing escalation among Muslim countries.
He emphasized that the flames of conflict, which had threatened to spread across the region for more than a month, had been temporarily contained for two weeks and expressed hope that the pause would lead to a permanent ceasefire and durable peace.
The prime minister highlighted the close coordination between the political and military leadership as a decisive factor behind the diplomatic success. He said the unity of purpose demonstrated by both institutions reflected sincerity and resolve to prevent a conflict that could have divided Muslim nations sharing the same faith and values.
He particularly appreciated the role of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for working tirelessly day and night to facilitate diplomatic engagement. He also paid tribute to Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for maintaining continuous contacts with international leadership, including the United States and Iran, to help de-escalate tensions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump for responding positively to Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and supporting efforts for a temporary ceasefire. He also expressed gratitude to friendly countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Türkiye, Indonesia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates and China for supporting Pakistan’s peace initiative.
Referring to his recent conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following attacks on Saudi energy facilities, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom and said the leadership of both countries reaffirmed their brotherly ties and mutual support.
He said the temporary ceasefire was only the first step and Pakistan would continue working with international partners to achieve lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the region. The prime minister informed the cabinet that delegations from the United States and Iran were expected to visit Pakistan soon to continue diplomatic engagement aimed at sustaining the momentum towards peace.
Highlighting broader national achievements, the prime minister said the government had also successfully managed economic pressures, including inflation challenges, through coordinated policy measures and targeted subsidies to protect citizens from price shocks.
He expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their guidance and support during the crisis period, as well as coalition partners and provincial leadership for demonstrating unity at a critical time.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the diplomatic success belonged not to any individual or government but to the entire nation, from workers and farmers to professionals and public servants, adding that Pakistan had emerged stronger and more respected on the global stage.
“Pakistan has changed forever,” he said, adding that from Karachi to Peshawar the country was now being viewed with renewed respect and dignity across the world due to its responsible and constructive role in promoting peace.
