PM Shehbaz joins regional leaders at SCO Heads of State Council summit

BISHKEK, Aug 9 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday joined the leaders from regional countries as they gathered here to participate in the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
As the prime minister arrived at the venue of the meeting, he was warmly received by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.
Both leaders shook hand before posing for a group photo along with other participating leaders of 10 member states and the beginning of the formal proceedings of the meeting.

Besides Prime Minister Shehbaz, President of China Xi Jinping, President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev are attending the meeting.
The meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council will be chaired by President Sadyr Zhaparov as Kyrgyzstan holds the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization from 2025 to 2026.
The prime minister will also attend the SCO Plus Summit with the participation of representatives of non-member states and international organizations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz will assume Pakistan’s Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) for 2026–2027.
During the visit, the prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Communication Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and senior officials.
He will also will hold bilateral discussions with President Sadyr Zhaparov on the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations wherein two sides will comprehensively review Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and discuss ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
